FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT AUTUMN INDULGENCE 2017

1. What is Autumn Indulgence anyway?
Since our first event in 2004, this evening of fun, food and entertainment has grown to be the social event of the year in Grand Bend. Starting with a 4 course meal and a variety of interesting and unique silent auction items where you can find something to suit your taste. The highlight of the evening is our live auction where you can bid on a variety of trips, art and lifestyle items (see www.autumnindulgence.com for an up to date list). This year we have something new a special “Paddle Auction” with proceeds going to support Jessica’s House.

2. When is the Event?
This year the event will happen Saturday September 23th, 2017.

3. What is this year’s Theme?
Our theme is “OH CANADA eh! A 150 Celebration”.

4. Why did you change the location?
After 12 years at the Huron Country Playhouse we are returning to the location that everyone loves and associates with Grand Bend Rotary.

5. Where does the money raised go?
All funds raised by The Rotary Club of Grand Bend Inc. are used to support non profit and charitable works chosen by the Club. Some of our current projects are:
Clean Water Now – an ongoing effort to improve Lake Huron water quality including beach water testing, Blue Flag monitoring and partnering with landowners and the ABCA in a project to clean up several ravines north of Grand Bend.
Rotary Community Stage – The club has committed $15000 this year towards the $300,000 cost of erecting the multi use facility now a reality on Grand Bend’s main beach.
School Supplies to Africa – The Grand Bend Rotary has already shipped 63 – 40 foot sea containers of badly needed school supplies to schools in Africa and other countries to support rural schools which have nothing. These desks, books and blackboards were surplus items from local schools being closed and would otherwise have gone to the landfill. Each container costs $6000 for shipping and several more are expected to be loaded and shipped this year.
Polio Eradication Worldwide – This Rotary International objective has received much support from Grand Bend in past and continues to be our signature project. A minimum of $15000 will be given this year to support the effort. The world is 99.9% polio free with only 19 cases worldwide in 2016.
Jessica’s House – This year Grand Bend Rotary is donating proceeds for the “paddle auction” at Autumn Indulgence to Jessica’s House. Come and support Rotary and this great cause.

6. Do I need to arrive in costume?
This year’s theme is “Oh Canada eh! A Celebration of Canada’s 150”, while the theme may suggest you dress patriotically, any interpretation you choose is great. We encourage our guests to come ready for fun and dressing up does add to the fun.

7. What’s Interactive Bidding?
This year as we did last year you will be able to see the silent auction items available right on your cell phone or tablet. You can place a bid on the items you want and know if you are overbid by another patron. All without ever leaving your seat! Don’t worry if you don’t have a capable cell phone. Volunteers will be in the room with tablets to help out.

8. Will the Live Auction be different?
We try to get some unique live auction items every year. This year we will have trips, and some special surprises (watch www.autumnindulgence.com for an up to date list).

9. Has the price of the event increased?
The price for the evening of dinner and entertainment is $150 this increase includes wine at the table and open bar. We have done this to reflect higher costs for food and wine which we hope you will love. All event costs are covered by the ticket revenue leaving funds raised by the draws, silent and live auctions to support the various Rotary charitable projects we undertake from year to year. We hope everyone will understand that our object is to raise funds which go to community and international projects and we have tried to increase the value that our patrons receive.

10. You have raised quite a lot of money over the years. Isn’t that good enough?
We are extremely thankful for the wonderful support Autumn Indulgence has received allowing us to take on big projects. We have more big ideas about what we would like to achieve and Autumn Indulgence is our only fundraising event. 100% of all money raised is used to fund our charitable projects. Our Club operations and administration is paid for by the membership.
